The State of Hawaii
The state of Hawaii is an archipelago, or a group of islands. It and Alaska are the only two states outside of the borders of the continental U.S. The eight islands are the Island of Hawai'i, Maui, Kaho'olawe, Lana'i, Moloka'i, O'ahu, Kaua'i, and Ni'ihau. The fiftieth state was added to the nation in 1959. Hawaii is home to a plurality of Asians and has its indigenous Hawaiian culture as well. In addition, Hawaii has a million permanent resident as well as many military personnel. Hawaii is one of four states that was an independent nation before joining the U.S.
Volcanic activity formed the islands of Hawaii and several volcanoes are still active. This activity and the structure of the ground has lead to several bad earthquakes and resultant tsunamis. Conservation of the islands and studying its geologic activity is very important to the safety of residents and tourists. It has a tropical climate but is cooler and less humid due to the presence of eastern trade winds. Snow occasionally falls on a few of the peaks.
Tourism in Hawaii is common due to its beautiful scenery and historic sites. As a state, one does not need a passport to travel there. The most common times to visit Hawaii is during the summer months and spring
Residents in Hawaii enjoy access to all national cellular carriers, but due to environmental conditions or other factors some mobile device users might not be able to get decent cellular coverage.
