The State of Missouri

Missouri has been steadily inhabited for over 10,000 years. It was home to the Mississippian mound-building culture. The state is named after the native Missouri tribe. The state is landlocked and borders eight other states: Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois.

It became the 24th state in 1821. The state is known as the "Mother of the West" and played a critical role in western expansion and manifest destiny in the United States. In fact, the Gateway Arch was created for that reason. It is also called the "Show Me State" due to the fact that Missourians consider themselves very skeptical.

The climate of the northern part of Missouri is typed as being humid continental. As such, residents of Missouri experience wet, humid, hot summers and snowy winters. In the southernmost parts of the state this changes to a humid subtropical climate and has milder winters. It can have very extreme ranges in temperature throughout the year due to the influence of Arctic winds and warmer, more humid air from the Gulf of Mexico. The state is located in Tornado Alley and experiences violent thunderstorms and tornadoes, some of which are exceptionally severe.

The southern portion of the state, especially the most southeastern part in the Bootheel, is very fertile and known for its rice and cotton crops. Other important agricultural products include soybeans, pork, beef, grains, poultry, and eggs. In fact, Missouri has more farms than any other state other than Texas. Other major industries include transportation, food processing, electrical equipment, beer, and financial services. Biotechnology is becoming increasingly important to the economy of the state; Monsanto is headquartered in St. Louis. Tourism focused on St. Louis, Branson, and the state's many forests and national parks is also growing.

People residing in the Show Me State enjoy access to all national cellular carriers, but due to environmental conditions or other factors some people may not have full access to decent cellular coverage. If you live or work in Missouri and are having connectivity issues, it may not be your carrier’s fault. If you need to Boost Your Bars, check out cell phone signal amplifier kits from HiBoost.
