The State of South Carolina
South Carolina is a state in the southeastern United States. It is bordered by Georgia and by North Carolina, and has 187 miles of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. Evidence of habitation of the area goes back to 12,000 years ago. Before European contact, it was home to many native peoples, including the Apalachee, Yamasee, Yuchi, Cherokee, and Catawba. It became the eighth state in 1788 when it ratified the Constitution, and was the first to secede to form the Confederacy in 1860.
The climate of the state is humid subtropical, which is characterized by hot humid summers and mild winters, although the latter proves to be more accurate in the coastal lands nearer the Atlantic. Upstate South Carolina and the inland area commonly have below freezing temperatures in the winter, although snowfall is rare except in the mountainous areas in the northwestern part of the state. South Carolina is prone to suffering from tropical storms and hurricanes which can occasionally cause widespread damage from landfall or subsequent flooding, and tornadoes are not unheard of. Geologically the state is made up of three distinct regions: the Atlantic coastal plain, the Piedmont, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The plains are referred to as the Low Country and the higher elevations of the other two are called the Up Country. The city of Charleston sits on a fault line, and the state has about ten or so minor earthquakes a year.
The economy of South Carolina is dependent on agriculture and business. Its farms produce tobacco, soybeans, hay, rice, pork, cattle, cotton, and poultry. In the industrial sector the primary products are chemical goods, textiles, paper products, automobiles, tourism, and machinery. Many different companies operate in South Carolina, including Boeing. There are also almost 2,000 foreign-owned companies in the state which together employ over 100,000 people.
Residents in the Palmetto State enjoy access to all national cellular carriers, but due to environmental conditions or other factors some people may not have full access to decent cellular coverage. If you live or work in South Carolina and are having connectivity issues, it may not be your carrier’s fault. If you need to Boost Your Bars, check out cell phone signal amplifier kits from HiBoost.
